I will be showcasing new drawings and some of my classic jewellery pieces in a group exhibition I've been curating; FIVE EIGHT FIVE VOL 2. It will open on thursday 8th of April from 6 to 8pm at the new Gaffa Gallery on Clarence st Sydney, right near Town Hall. It will be running until the 20th of April. Please come visit as it will also be showcasing 15 other emerging Sydney based artists and designers.

So I have been working on my Dove range; a collection that includes dress rings, studs and drop earrings. They are available in solid silver, plated gold and solid gold on request. The pieces received awesome feedback at Finders Keepers which was a great success for us, (The Silver Room ) so hopefully we can do it again sometime next year :D. My one off Equus long tail pendant is on display at the Precious Pendants exhibition held at Object gallery. The exhibition showcases 40 pendants created by 40 Australian jewellers at various stages of their career so please come check it out! Opening night is on the 20th of November and runs until the 31st of January 2010.

The Equus Tail pendant is one of my favourites and I often wear it with my Equus range rings. It's really eye catching as the tassel brings so much movement to the piece. I like the combination of silver and non metal materials like fabric and the contrast between the polished metal against the matte texture of the tassel. I think I will experiment with that combination more in the future.

Insect Drawings for Annexed Album Cover

In late 2008 I was commissioned by Sydney based instrumental band Annexed to create artwork for their album When Philistines Joust.

Through many discussions with the band, we decided on the symbol of the bee to convey the concept behind their music. The drawing is ink on paper and measures approximately 40 cm in height by 2 meters in width. It illustrates a battle between swarms of bees and explores ideas of hierarchic conflict and mass action. This was a really rewarding piece to create as I was using their instrumental sound as inspiration. I have never collaborated with musicians to make work before so it was challenging and heaps of fun.

These rings were created in 2008 and comes with matching earrings. They are an amalgamation of land and sea creatures such as caterpillars, anemones and sea urchins. I love the contrast between the polished surfaces and the raw textures of the spikes.

I am a practising artist as well as a jewellery designer and maker. I was born in Tokyo but migrated to Sydney with my mother when I was six and this is where I reside and practice.

In 2006 I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, majoring in Drawing.

Following my degree I began working in a jewellery workshop for a Sydney based design company. There I furthered my skills in metal working and silver smithing and developed lasting relationships with a myriad of talented jewellers, artists and designers. This engagement with such diverse and creative people inspired me to launch my own jewellery label in 2009.

My pieces are very sculptural. I guess this is a reflection on my fine arts background. This range in particular is loaded with statement yet very wearable. Ornamentation, patternation, animals, found objects and kitsch aesthetics are constant themes within my jewellery work.
